Aloha First Grade 'Ohana,
Hopefully you have all received your child's IXL passwords and a letter about IXL from me. It went home in their take-home folders this week. If you did not receive the information, let me know and I can resend it.
We will now be using IXL for homework. I will update the Weebly each week to share the homework. I will be grading assigned homework only. If your child wants to move ahead past the assigned homework, it will be graded when we cover the same content in class. I may sometimes include bonus assignments for students who want to do more than the assigned homework. All homework for the week is due Friday. I will grade it by their score and time spent on the assignment. Assignments should show up as highlighted and recommend by me when your child logs on to their IXL account.
The homework for this week due by Friday, September 6 is as follows:
Math: A 1, 2; K 1, 2
Language Arts: A 1, 2; B 1, 2; G 1, 2, 3; U 1
Bonus Language Arts: S 1,2,3: EE 11
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Aloha,
Ms. Emily
In The Classroom:
We will continue to learn about our fabulous classroom pet, Zilla, the red-eared slider. This week we will focus on what types of food she needs to survive. One of the things that she likes is lettuce, so if you have lettuce that is ready to be eaten, please send it our way. Also, we would love a donation of a water filter and a 55-gallon screen lid. Please let me know if it is possible for you to donate these items! In math, we will be working on comparing numbers and recognizing number patterns, as well as counting and numbers before and ahead. We are also studying the composition of the earth and the difference between fold and volcanic mountains. One of the greatest things about living on Maui is that the children can see a volcanic mountain up close. If you have not taken your child up to the top of Haleakala, I highly recommend it. We will be learning about the life stages of volcanoes, and parts of the volcano in the next few weeks and this would really give them a visual of what we are learning.
Vocabulary Words for the Week: van, yet, yes, wet, not, too.
