Aloha Families,
Our class is in for a treat this year, a high school senior has chosen our class to participate in her senior project. She will be coming into our classroom once a week to begin teaching our students spanish! Students will be introduced to the project for the first time this week on Tuesday afternoon, make sure to ask your student about it. I am very excited and I can not wait to see how students progress over the year!
Last week students studied spelling in the classroom using the Vocabulary Spelling City website. Most students enjoyed this method so I have printed off their log in cards to send home for extra practice as needed. Students can go to https://www.spellingcity.com/ and login in for additional at home practice any time during the week.
The week of October 7th is Fall Break, classes will resume on Tuesday October 15th.
The week of September 30th - October 4th we will hold our first parent teacher conferences. Students in grades K-6 will be dismissed at noon each day that week. There will not be aftercare during this week.
If your student was absent on picture day, retakes are scheduled for November 15th.
In The Classroom:
This week students will be visiting the high school math room for a few special project presentations by our high schoolers. These students have written stories related to math expressions with a target audience of K-5 students.
In our classroom we will review our unit one information and prepare for a unit test on Thursday. Students will be reviewing even and odd numbers, rounding to the nearest tens and hundreds, multiple digit addition with “carrying” as well as subtraction with borrowing and differentiating between the addition properties identity, commutative and associative. Students are encouraged to review at home as needed you can have students review with IXL math lessons A.1, P.1, P.5, N.3, C.1, P.8 and D.1
During our small groups last week students completed the read aloud regarding extreme weather. This week we will use our Scholastic News articles to learn more about non-fiction texts and the text elements found within them.
At the end of last week students seemed to need a little extra time on their explorers project. We will be finishing this up and moving forward to naming our newly found town in social studies.
We will have our spelling test this week on Friday. Please look below for a copy of this week's words. Please have your student practice at home if additional practice is needed each week.
