Aloha Families,
School Pictures will be taken on Friday September 13th. Students are not required to wear their uniform shirts if purchasing pictures. Please make sure to review the student handbook for appropriate school attire. No spaghetti strap shirts are allowed. Please note that our class has PE on Fridays as well in the afternoon, students should be prepared to participate in the class that day as well.
The book mobile will also be on campus Friday September 13th. Please send books with your student to return during this time. Students may also use their library cards to check out new books.
The week of September 30th - October 4th we will hold our first parent teacher conferences. Students in grades K-6 will be dismissed at noon each day that week. I will send out a conference sign up form soon. Sign ups will be on a first come first serve basis and only during the scheduled time slots.
In The Classroom:
This week in math we will continue looking at adding three and four digit numbers. Students will continue to practice “carrying” over numbers to the next place value while adding. We will learn more about the use of the break apart strategy and place value to add. We will also review addition properties such as commutative, associative and identity properties.
In literacy we will continue to read in our small groups the book I Survived, Extreme Weather by Laurn Tarshis. This week students will read about an Alaskan avalanche. We will continue to build reading stamina in our small groups. Students will focus on learning the cursive letter p & t and we will review adverbs during our weekly grammar lessons.
In social studies we will continue learning about early explorers. This week students will complete an activity about early european explorers and their voyage journey, goals and results. These explorers include Chirstopher Columbus, John Cabot, Jaun Ponce de Leon, Giovanni de Verrazzano, Jacques Cartier, Hernando de Soto, Samuel de Champlain and Henry Hudson.
We will have our spelling test this week on Friday. Please look below for a copy of this week's words. Please have your student practice at home if additional practice is needed each week.
