Tuesday, 8:00!!! - 2:35, Hokule'a field trip
*There is a chance that the Hokule’a will be late because of this wild weather. Please check your email Tuesday before leaving the house in case the field trip is postponed.
Parents, I just found out yesterday that waivers are required. I will email you a very simple electronic waiver to fill out but if you cannot do that I will have paper ones on Tuesday. Please email me once you filled it out or if you need a paper waiver.
Do not bring your backpack. Bring just snack (and lunch), water, close-toed shoes, sun protection, and your spelling handout! Also bring your waiver if you printed it.
We will meet at school at 8:00 am and leave promptly at 8:10. Please do not be late. I will have waivers ready in the parking lot for parents to sign if you do not sign electronically.
We will travel to Ma’alaea Harbor to participate in a field trip with the crew of the Hokule’a!! We will have snack there and return to school for lunch.
We will take the spelling test after lunch.
PE day, dress (and act) appropriately
Thursday, Whale Watch field trip and short virtual day
I will post virtual in the morning. Try to complete it before the field trip but you may complete it after if necessary.
Do not come to school on Thursday. Come straight to the harbor NO LATER THAN 10:30. There is a small fee for parking at the harbor. We will leave out of slip #44, which is on the ocean side of the harbor about halfway down past Buzz’s Wharf. Wear close-toed shoes, your school shirt, sun protection, and bring water. Do not bring your backpack. Be aware that hats can blow off very easily.
• Life jackets are available for every single child/person on board. Email me today if you want your student to wear one.
• Our U.S. Coast Guard certified vessels are operated by licensed captains who understand the unique needs of school groups.
• Safety rules and guidelines
o Walk at all times while on board the vessel
o Remain seated or stand with both feet on the deck at all times (children may not be picked up)
o When using the marine head (bathroom), dispose of toilet paper in the trash can
o Be sure snacks, trash, and other personal items remain on board the vessel and do not end up in the ocean. Plan to not eat on the boat.
o Children get front-row spots at the rail; adults stand behind
• On the boat: Please ensure that your chaperones understand that while on board the vessel, their primary responsibility is the safety of the children. Pictures, conversations, and their own personal experience are secondary to the children’s safety as they are “on duty” as chaperones.
• All adults who will be on the whale watch must sign a liability waiver.
Here is the field trip itinerary:
10:30 am: Students dropped off (or come with adult chaperones) at slip #44, Ocean Odyssey
10:45 am: Board Ocean Odyssey for Keiki Whalewatch
12:00 pm: Return to Slip #44, disembark Ocean Odyssey, students picked up
Please be at the harbor promptly at 12:00 for pickup.
If you have not paid or returned your waivers, please do so on TUESDAY!
Friday, 9:00 - 2:35

Please email me right away if you have any questions. Thank you!
