Aloha 4th Grade Ohana,
My name is Ms. Elyssa and I’m thrilled to be your student’s new 4th grade Math & Science teacher. Thank you in advance for your patience in my transition to this new role.
The first week back from break was fantastic! It was great getting to know the students as well as science topics that they are excited to learn about. Below I’ve included some updates for last week as well as plans for this week. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at [email protected]. I am also active on ClassDojo as well. Looking forward to a semester full of project based learning, science experiments, and fun!
In the Classroom updates:
Throughout last week both classes worked together to develop our “Good Behavior Game” to increase focus, encouragement, and kindness throughout the semester. We also reviewed class procedures/expectations and began iReady testing.
Math
This week we will review multiplication and division before starting our fractions unit the following week. We will also begin learning the procedures for our new math centers.
Science
This week we will kick off science class with our Engineering unit. During this unit students will learn about topics including engineering careers and the engineering design process.
Students will also be working on an engineering activity that'll include real life applications of general mathematics. For this activity they will have a specific budget and amount of materials to plan and build a structure while following the guidelines of the engineering process.
Will everyone’s structure be able to withstand the weight of 50 pennies or more? Be sure to check ClassDojo to find out as I will be posting story updates on these activities :)
