Starting next week, our 5th grade class is going to begin a big project for math class. They will be creating a one week menu for a family of four with a budget of $250. Here is an outline of the project requirements
Purpose- Students will learn how to use math to create a meal plan within a certain budget. Please remember, this is only a menu they are creating, students do not need to actually purchase food.
Project will be due September 20th.

- Must stay under the given budget
- Must follow the food pyramid and include the recommended servings for each food group
- Food cannot be prepackaged. All food must be "made"
- Students may cook one meal from their menu for their family, but it is not required.
- Students will be using Safeway to "purchase" their food.
- Budget must include the sales tax
- Students will create a poster displaying their week long menu
- Menu must include breakfast, lunch, and dinner for five days and must be enough to feed four people (no babies)
- Cereal is allowed, but can only be used twice
