Dear First-Grade 'Ohana,
We have made it to September and our work is in full swing! It seems like most of you are checking the Weebly and doing the homework accordingly. A few of the children expressed concern about getting all their homework done on time. If they do not complete assignments by the due date, I will grade them when they do complete them.
Friday, September 13 is Picture Day! Forms went home this week. You can turn the form back into the school, or you can order online. Students do not need to wear their KCS shirts that day. They can wear whatever they choose, except costume attire. We will also be having another visit from the Bookmobile the same day. If you have not gotten a library card for your child, I recommend that you do, so they can fully participate in the Bookmobile.
A note about work going home: I am preparing a portfolio of your child's work to share with you at conferences. I have been saving their best work for you to view at that time. I send home graded worksheets on occasion, but you can also see the grades your child received on Power School. At the end of the year, you will be able to bring home your child's portfolio as a keepsake.
In the Classroom: We switched seats this month! We will be switching seats each month of the school year. The students were very excited to fill out their "All About Me" forms and find their new spots. In math, we have been working on greater than less than with numbers under 10 and patterns of numbers. In Social Studies/Science we learned about the layers of the earth, and will learn next week about what turtles eat. In Language Arts, we have learned about initial consonant sounds and letter writing. Next week we will learn how to break up words into syllables. Next week we will learn about ending consonant sounds and finding vowels in words. We also work on reading comprehension and literature analysis everyday. We are also continuing to brainstorm ideas for our STEM activity of building a crayon box.
Homework for this week on IXL is:
Math: K 3
Extra practice: V1, V2
Language Arts: E 1, 2, 3, 4; PP 1
Thank you so much for the following families for much needed items:
