Dear First-Grade 'Ohana,
The IXL homework for the week is as follows:
Math: A11 (Counting Tens and Ones up to 99), D4 (Ways to make a Number up to 10)
Language Arts: H2 (Complete the Short e word), T1 (Reality vs. Fiction), FF5 ( Identifying Proper Nouns)
All homework is due on Friday, November 21 at 8 a.m.
In the classroom:
Thank you so much for all of you who have donated bottle caps for our project! We have 54 so far and a few of the students got to practice their ideas for a classroom mural today. We will continue to collect them until we have enough, so please keep sending them in! Mahalo! We can't wait to show you our mural project at our exhibition on Friday, December 20 from 11-12.
We just finished reading the book Maddi's Fridge by Louis Brandt. It's a book that tells a story about the friendship between two little girls and how childhood hunger impacts that friendship. The book ties into our word of month, which is kindness. We have decided as a class that we are going to have a food drive for the Maui Food Bank. We will begin collecting food on Monday, November 18 and collect until Wednesday, November 27. The students are responsible for this project with my guidance. They will be making flyers to put up around school and visiting classrooms to talk about the food drive. If you are not familiar with the Maui Food Bank, I encourage you to check out their Web site at https://mauifoodbank.org/ . Please bring your non-perishable food items to donate, and help make this a successful experience for your keiki!
The Book Mobile will be coming this week on Thursday, Nov. 21, so please have your children bring their library cards if they want to check something out. Also, if you would like to order books for your children from Scholastic, please do so before Thursday so I can place the order. Mahalo!
Aloha, Ms. Emily
