Today you will write the second paragraph to your essay portion of the project. Please use the rubric I created for you to follow. This paragraph should focus on the problem/issue you are focusing on and how your city created a solution to your problem. Please use specific examples from your model city. If you haven't done so, you must also write the introduction to your essay. Please have both paragraphs in class on Tuesday.
Create a timeline with these events in order. Here is an example of a timeline which you may use to create your own.
500 - Polynesians are the first people to arrive on the Hawaiian Islands.
1778 - British explorer Captain James Cook visits the islands.
1779 - Captain James Cook is killed in a skirmish with the islanders.
1793 - Cattle are introduced to Hawaii.
1810 - King Kamehameha takes over all of the islands and establishes the Kingdom of Hawaii.
1819 - Whalers begun hunting off the shores of the islands.
1820 - Christian missionaries arrive on the island.
1826 - The U.S. and Hawaii enter into a treaty of friendship.
1835 - The first sugar plantation is built.
1893 - The Kingdom of Hawaii is overthrown and the Republic of Hawaii is established.
1898 - Hawaii becomes a U.S. territory.
1900 - A great fire occurs in Chinatown.
1901 - James Dole established the Hawaiian Pineapple Company.
1935 - Amelia Earhart is the first pilot to fly solo from Hawaii to the mainland U.S.
1941 - Pearl Harbor is bombed by the Japanese in a surprise attack. The U.S. enters World War II.
1959 - Hawaii becomes the 50th U.S. state
