This week, you will complete 60 minutes of iReady Reading. This is due on Sunday, September 4th. Please remember to log every lesson you do (and the time it takes you do them!) in your Google Doc.
Today you will have 5 assignments.
First, make another Google Doc for iReady Reading. Title it “Your First Name Reading iReady.” Follow the same instructions from last week but add one more column for Time (so 4 x 20). This is where you will put how much time it took you to finish the lesson. Here is my math sample with the Time column added. Add a Time column to your math Doc as well by right clicking in the table and then clicking Insert Column (left or right doesn't matter). Then, SHARE it with me. Please fill in the doc EACH time you complete an assignment (but you don’t have to share it with me again because I now always have access).
Second, spend about two hours on this website: Never Lost. It is an amazing Exploratorium website with videos and interactives about Polynesian Navigating. Watch the videos, read the quotes and articles, click on the pictures for more details, explore in the virtual Planetarium, and much more! Have fun and learn a lot! Click on each section and subsection and take notes in your journal about what you learned from each of the 16 subsections. Your notes should have one or two sentences of something you learned next to each subsection. Bring in your notes for credit on Tuesday. Write clearly, check your spelling, and make your notes look nice! Here is a list of all sections and their subsections (with one sample from the We Are All Navigators subsection, don’t use my same exact description).
Origins Section (notice I underlined the section titles, do the same)
Voyaging: Why Then, Why Now?
What is Polynesia?
Reflections on Home
Poetry of Preservation
Explore the Island
To Build a Canoe
Tying the Knot
Basics of Wayfinding
On the Water
We Are All Navigators: Ancient Hawaiians said “Happy Wednesday night” because the night sky shifted each night so it was a more important marker of time than daytime. (notice how I spaced it away from the line so you can see the subsection clearly, please do the same)
The Next Horizon
Third, go to Google Docs and create a new doc. Title it “Your First Name, SSS.” An SSS is a Silly Spelling Story! Make a story about whatever you want using ALL 25 of your spelling words (see earlier post for tomorrow’s Spelling Test words). Be sure to use the spelling words for tomorrow's test!!! On the Doc’s page, put the date (8/29) and make a title for your story. You will use this Doc again for more stories. Underline the spelling words. Check your spelling and grammar. SHARE it with me when you are finished.
Fourth, watch this short video and then complete A5 (prime and composite numbers), D3 (multiples), and D4 (factors) on IXL MATH. Log in and try to get a Smart Score of AT LEAST 70 (but try to challenge yourself, you’ll be more successful in life!).

Last, add at least more words to your section of our Hawaiian Nouns doc. We are going to make Hawaiian alphabet books soon so this is a good way to get your words ready! Use wehewehe.org to search for words or hawaiian-words.com for some common Hawaiian words. Try to choose things you like and can draw as well as words that start with different letters! Do not choose the same words as other students. If you have a green highlighted word on your page, please find a new word.
Good work today everyone! Don't forget to study for the spelling test and read everyday!
