- I have been disappointed in recent iReady scores. Last week, for math, only 7 students completed at least 35 minutes. That means 12 students only spent 30 minutes or less working on something that is specifically made for you and will improve your overall learning! If this continues, there will be consequences for those that do less than 30 minutes per week. Remember, you have all week to do this and should do it after school, like normal homework, so that you will be done before the weekend! We will be taking the iReady Diagnostic tests this week so please spend as much time as you can practicing these great, individualized lessons.
Monday, Virtual
Today you have 5 assignments and should spend extra time on iReady and studying for the spelling test.
Today we will start working on our Hawaiian Alphabet Books. Each student or in partners will be responsible as the “editor” for one book, starting with each of the 13 Hawaiian letters. At the end, we will have 13 books, one for each letter. There are 19 students so some students will work alone and some will be in partners.
- Go to your email to find out your letter and if you have a partner.
- Then, go to our Hawaiian Nouns doc and find all the words that start with your letter.
- Check the words on wehewehe.org to be sure that they are translated and spelled correctly (students occasionally make mistakes right?!).
- Write them down with the English translation on a piece of paper and bring them in tomorrow.
- Try to have at least 19 NOUNS (person, place, thing), use the links from Thursday’s virtual to find more if you need. Do this alone even if you have a partner.
- This should take around one hour.
Second, find any educational website (NOT Wikipedia) about your volcano by searching Google.com, Kiddle.co, VolcanoDiscovery.com, or by going to your volcano’s Wikipedia page and clicking at the links on the bottom of the page. Use the information you learned from that page to write a SIX sentence paragraph about a topic relating to your volcano (the creation of the volcano or an important eruption or your interesting fact from the doc are probably the best topics).
- Start a NEW google Doc and title it “Your Name Volcano”. SHARE it with me right away!
- Find an educational website by using the links above and typing your volcano’s name into the search bar. No Wikipedia.
- Read the website carefully and learn about your volcano.
- Paste the website link in the google doc so I can review it.
- Write a six sentence paragraph about one topic you learned about your volcano.
- Start with a topic sentence. This should introduce the topic of the paragraph. For example: Kilauea is the youngest volcano on the Hawaiian islands.
- This tells the readers that my topic for Kilauea is its age!
- This tells the readers that my topic for Kilauea is its age!
- Then write 5 sentences that give more details about your topic.
- For example, I will tell about when and how it was first created.
- For example, I will tell about when and how it was first created.
- Use your own words, don’t copy anything exactly from the website.
- Stay on the same topic for the whole paragraph.
- Be detailed by learning and writing about who, what, where, when, why, and how.
- Indent (tab) the paragraph and check your spelling. Use proper paragraph format like we learned from our last essay.
- Start with a topic sentence. This should introduce the topic of the paragraph. For example: Kilauea is the youngest volcano on the Hawaiian islands.
- This should take up to two hours. Email me if you have any questions!
Third, complete IXL Math lessons M.4 and M.5.
Fourth, complete IXL Language Arts K.1, K.2, K.3, Q.1 and Q.2. There are a lot of lessons but they are not long and will help you practice -ed and -ing endings for our spelling test tomorrow.
Last, in your journal, practice EITHER your cursive or regular handwriting by making sentences about each of your spelling words. It does NOT need to be a story (you can if you want) but each sentence should be at least 6 words (No “I like flying.”). Number your sentences to match the spelling words, check ALL your spelling, and write with your BEST handwriting.
