As a reminder to students and parents, this assignment is my way of giving you some freedom when it comes to homework. Instead of me sending home something specific and with exact due dates, I give you the option to complete these personalized lessons whenever is convenient to you. I also offer up to 4 points of extra credit each week by completing extra minutes up to 100 minutes. This can be helpful if you miss a week, as you will be able to make up 4 of those points the next week. Therefore, if you got a low grade for the reading assignment on the week of 9/12-18, this is your chance to improve your grade by doing 100 minutes of iReady Reading this week. You will then get a score of 10/6 when I grade it on October 4th. You can check your grades on PowerSchool; your login info is in your planner. Lastly, all weekly iReady assignments are due on Sundays because that is how the grading week works on iReady. So, today you should be starting your reading assignment and you should have finished your math assignment from last week. If you have any more questions, please email me.
Monday, Virtual
Today you have 6 assignments:
First, complete lessons B.1 and D.8 on IXL Math. Don’t forget to login and get a SmartScore of at least 70.
Second, now that you’ve practiced earlier skills, practice the box method, which we learned on Friday! Complete to a SmartScore of 70, lesson D.15 on IXL Math.
Remember, we first multiply the numbers outside the box following the table format. Then, we add all the numbers inside the boxes (IXL first has you add them across then add going down). If you need help, get the first one wrong and CAREFULLY read the Explanation!
*OPTIONAL, Try D.16, the Lattice Method! It is similar but you split the number up then add diagonally. This will be for extra credit! Try to get a SmartScore of 50!
Third, on IXL Language Arts, complete B.1 and B.2, subject and predicate.
Fourth, complete KK.1 (Letters) on IXL Language Arts (SmartScore 70). Then, using what you learned, write two thank you letters: One to Aunty Gloria and Aunty Tamara at Maui Nui Botanical Garden and one to Aunty Maria at The Maui Farm. You can choose to say “Dear The Maui Farm,” or her name. Don’t forget a closing too!
Spend time thinking about what you want to thank them for then write at least 5 sentences with your best handwriting on a nice piece of paper! You should check your spelling so you don't make mistakes. Don't forget to indent the first part of the body of your paragraph but not the greeting! You can also choose to fold it like a card and draw a picture on the front. I will be delivering these letters to them so make it your best work! Bring them in on Tuesday.
Fifth, take this practice test about weathering and erosion. you can also click on the other links at the top of that page to practice more. We will have a test tomorrow and these terms will be on the test. You will also have to explain what we learned during the erosion labs. I will also ask you to name one real-world land formation created by weathering and erosion so you can do some research on Google by typing “examples of weathering,” “examples of erosion” or checking out THIS article on weathering and THIS article on erosion.
Last, study your spelling words!
