WE WON THE SEPTEMBER KIDBIZ CHALLENGE! Congratulations students on your hard work! We will be having a party after lunch on Friday afternoon (that is a full school day). Parents, if you would like to send in a healthy snack for the party, please email me. Be aware, we have students that are allergic to nuts and artificial food dye.
--- Missing and incomplete assignments must be finished before Friday to participate in the KidBiz party.
Please see full post for this week’s schedule.
No weekly iReady homework this week. Please prepare instead for the Science Fair!
Monday, virtual
Today there are only a few assignments because I want students to focus on their science fair projects and their volcano brochures. These are both important assignments and I expect students to work hard on these for a few hours each to create their best work! These are both due tomorrow.
- Prepare for the science fair.
— Finish your experiment and make an informative paper about the data you collected.
— Write a detailed paragraph with at least 5 sentences explaining your results.
— Make your poster. Use THIS site for an example. Your poster should have all the steps of the scientific method and some visual aids (like photos or drawings of you doing your experiment!). Include the data paper and results paragraph on your poster.
— Make a model or recreation of your experiment so you can demonstrate at the fair.
— Practice your speech with your parents for when people ask you about your experiment.
— Bring in your poster, the scientific method handout from two weeks ago, and any supplies you need to recreate or model your experiment to class tomorrow.
— HERE is how I will be grading your project. Please show me your BEST work. Spend at least a few hours on this and be ready to show the class tomorrow. - Make your Volcano Brochure.
--- Design your own cover and second flaps.
--- The inside flaps should be: Flight, Paragraph, Hotel.
--- Follow all the instructions on the handout and check out the rubric to be sure you have completed everything.
--- Again, make this your best work!
--- Bring in your brochure and the handout tomorrow! - Check your updated lexile level on KidBiz by clicking “Resources” then Career Center and pick your top career. You will see your new lexile level on the green bar to the right of your career. Are you getting closer to your goal lexile level?
- Then complete ALL 9 tabs (and page two’s Dig Deeper too!) for the lesson called “Hawaii’s Early Settlers” on KidBiz, which you can find on your homepage. Try your hardest to get 75% or more on the Activity tab. This will help improve your lexile level.
- Then in your journal, summarize in 3 sentences each (6 total) the legends of Hawai’iloa and Pa’ao.
Don’t forget to study for your spelling test!
