I will be sending home waivers for the whale watch tomorrow. Please send them back signed on Wednesday. Parents who want to join, please email me and fill out the adult waiver upon payment at the middle school. You MUST pay by the end of the week.
There will be no school on Thursday due to Teacher Institute Day.
HOMEWORK THIS WEEK: 50 minutes of iReady math and 50 minutes of iReady reading.
Today you have 6 assignments.
- Watch THIS video about adding fractions with unlike (different) fractions. Also check your notes from Friday. Remember the steps:
1. Find a common denominator by multiplying each fraction by the other denominator (The video is a little different but it's the same idea) OR find the lower common factor (Khan academy video explains well HERE).
2. Add the numerators but keep the denominators the same,
3. Simplify if needed (convert and reduce!).
Then complete IXL R1, R2, R3, and R4!! - Finish your two paragraphs about Dear Mr. Henshaw. This will be graded as a test so work alone and try your very best.
Here is the prompt:
- Paragraph 1: Describe 3 major conflicts in the novel.
- Paragraph 2: Predict how you think these 3 conflicts will be resolved.
- Be very descriptive and use details from the novel.
- Write in correct paragraph form. - Make your final draft of your animal journal cover on the fancy paper. Spend a lot of time making this look REALLY nice! See my notes on your rough draft.
All covers must have:
- Hawaiian name
- Common name
- Scientific name
- your name.
Your cover should be colorful, free of mistakes. professional-looking, and beautiful! Use a ruler, paint it with water colors, print the words, add extra paper or 3D items! - Get supplies together to paint your animal model. You can bring in anything you want to add to your model including: some sort of background, PAINTBRUSHES (we only have really small ones), tissue paper for details, extra paint, markers, anything you like to make your model look awesome! Bring in your supplies tomorrow!
MAKE SURE YOUR ANIMAL JOURNAL DOC IS READY FOR PRINTING TODAY AND THAT YOU HAVE REALLY STUDIED YOUR ANIMAL'S COLORS AND MARKINGS! - Spend some time talking to your parents about your invention. Discuss whether you can get all your supplies, what they think about your design, how they can help you, and anything else you want. Then email me and tell me about your conversation and your design. Will it work? Can you get all the supplies? Can you make it?
- Look around your neighborhood and find Hawaiian words. Check street signs and building names. Or check your area on Google MAPS. Then go to Wehewehe and translate at least 5 new words that you found. Add them to THIS doc. See more directions on the doc.
With any remaining time, practice your spelling (and cursive, I will check the handout tomorrow), do iReady, and read for Bookit.
