At the end of this quarter, we will have a school-wide science fair! Please spend some time today thinking of an experiment you would like to do! You can search online for 'science experiments." We will discuss this tomorrow.
The third graders are winning the KidBiz Challenge! Ms. Crystal’s class has 2,400 points and we have 1,700 points. We can all improve that score by doing at least two lessons per day. They also have the most top scorers! You can become the top scorer by completing at least 3 lessons per day. Remember, you have to score at least 75% on the Activity for your points to count. Let’s all work harder on KidBiz! Find time everyday to do at least 2 lessons (Article-Only lessons do not count, they must have the first 4 tabs including activity).
Excellent job on your math tests! I will hand them back tomorrow!
1 hour of iReady READING due Sunday, 9/17 (write this in your journal anywhere this week)
Final draft of a piece of art about the lava of your choice. On Friday you will turn in the rough draft and final draft so make sure you do both! (write this on Friday in your journal). If you would like to submit it to the Maui Fair Art Show, read over the guidelines HERE (parents, email me if you have questions, the fair is very strict).
HERE is the updated lunch calendar. Items are subject to change.
Monday virtual
Today you have 6 assignments. Make sure to write them in your journal.
- In your journal, look at the Volcano Review info we wrote on Friday. Also make sure you have all four** handouts about volcanoes. Check them out then in your journal, write 4 sentences about a project you would like to work on to teach others about plate tectonics, volcanoes, and/or lava. Use what we have learned in your project idea. Title it “Volcano Project.”
- Go to one of the links below and choose a volcano that you want to research. You can also search google or kiddle if you like. Find a web page about your volcano, read it and find out WHERE and what TYPE and STAGE it is. Post the info you found on THIS shared doc. ***Each student needs to choose a different volcano so be sure to check the doc before researching your volcano.
- Simple list of volcanoes on Wikipedia
- VolcanoDiscovery.com list of volcanoes, great site for kids
- Wikipedia list of ALL volcanoes, do not choose extraterrestrial, subglacial, or submarine volcanoes - Go to KidBiz and complete the 5 orange tabs (before reading poll to thought question) the lesson called “A Mess at Sea.” Then in your journal, write down the Cause and Effect that was mentioned in the article.
- Complete a rough draft of your Hawaiian Numbers (Helu) coloring page. It should look very similar to the handout from class but we are also adding Hawaiian words for the things you draw! Be detailed and clear. Bring it in and we will share them then work on them as group projects. Use wehewehe and check out THIS doc for more words.
- Study your spelling words in a unique way for at least 1 hour. Use the spelling handout to get ideas or search for “spelling test practice” on Google or Kiddle. On the back of the spelling words handout, describe in at least three sentences how you studied and which words were hardest. If you studied on a piece of paper, bring that in too.
- Search for photos of Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains. Finish your art from Wednesday and add what type and stage the volcanoes are on your picture. Remember, each photo should have descriptive words on them as well as drawings.
*** With any remaining time, complete lessons on KidBiz, start your iReady Reading weekly homework, and/or work on your final draft for your lava art.
