Aloha Families,
Thank you to everyone who has sent in empty plastic water size bottles. I am looking for about 5 more if you have any laying around in your recycling bins.
We will continue with i-Ready testing this week on Tuesday. Students did a great job on Friday staying focused on task. If our class is not able to complete the testing on Tuesday we will plan for another day soon.
Federal Survey Impact Forms will be distributed on Wednesday, September 4. Please complete the survey and return to school the next day, Thursday September 5.
School Pictures will be taken on Friday September 13th. Students are not required to wear their uniform shirts if purchasing pictures. Please make sure to review the student handbook for appropriate school attire. No spaghetti strap shirts are allowed. Please note that our class has PE on Fridays as well in the afternoon, students should be prepared to participate in the class that day as well.
The week of September 30th - October 4th we will hold our first parent teacher conferences. Students in grades K-6 will be dismissed at noon each day that week. I will send out a conference sign up form later this week. Sign ups will be on a first come first serve basis.
In The Classroom:
This week in math we will look at adding three and four digit numbers. Students will practice “carrying” over numbers to the next place value while adding. We will use the break apart strategy and place value to add. We will also be learning to recognize and distinguish between addition properties such as commutative, associative and identity properties.
In literacy we will continue to read in our small groups the book I Survived, Extreme Weather by Lauren Tarshis while focusing on building our reading stamina and what it means to read together in a small group. Students will focus on learning the cursive letter h and we will review adverbs during our weekly grammar lessons.
In social studies we will continue learning about early explorers. We will look over information about the Mayflower and what life was like on a ship during such a voyage to answer several questions. I have listed a few questions below that we will uncover throughout the week.
What did passengers eat? Where did they sleep? How long did it take for such a voyage? How did passengers stay clean? What did children do to pass the time? What did the inside of the ship look like and how is that different from today's passenger ships?
We will have our spelling test this week on Friday. Please look below for a copy of this week's words. Please have your student practice at home if additional practice is needed each week.
