Aloha Families,
We have a few fun activities for students this week along with information about an upcoming field trip!
Tuesday, we will be visited by Troy the X-Ray Boy. Troy is a radiology technician and clinical instructor at Maui Medical Group.
Wednesday, our class will be visited by the Rotary Club of Maui. Each year the group provides each 3rd grade student with their own personal dictionaries. Students will learn how to use the dictionary and then keep them in their desks for use throughout the year. At the end of the year, students will bring these home for continued use.
Thursday, the 5th Grade Humanities class will be hosting a KCS Spooktacular Event for students in grades K-3. Students will be divided into small groups and assisted by the 5th graders during the fun!
Please remember this year students may dress as their favorite character on Halloween day if they wish, but must follow all dress code guidelines. No masks or heavy make-up will be allowed. Students must be comfortable and able to participate during all classroom activities, recess and the Spooktacular event to be held outside. If you have any questions, please refer to the student handbook or let me know.
Friday, the book mobile will be on campus please have students bring in any books they need to return as well as their library cards to check books out.
The 1st Book It month will end this week. Please sign your students tracking form. I will begin collecting these on Friday in order to pass out students awards for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! Students will then be given a new tracking form for the month of November.
Upcoming Field Trip

In The Classroom:
In math we will finish our time unit and begin looking at measuring to the nearest half inch and fourth inch. Along with measuring liquid volume and mass. We will work on these concepts over the next few weeks.
This week we will pause our reading of Wishtree ( we will continue reading this book next week) and we will be reading a few short stories. I am Trying to Love Spiders, by Bethany Barton. This book is a non-fiction book filled with interesting facts about spiders. We will make a list of things we think we know and then compare the list to facts we learn when reading the book. We will also be reading the short story Room On The Broom, by Julia Donaldson. After reading students will design a broom using different materials such as play dough, Legos, straws etc. that will hold everyone needing a ride from the book.
Last week we began our science stations with our current weather and climate unit. We will continue to learn about our unit while continuing to practice our stations this week.
