Aloha 4th Grade Ohana,
Students are doing great in transitioning to our new bell schedule and meeting classroom expectations. This week I've updated Google Classroom to reflect upcoming assignments and have begun posting grades on PowerSchool.
Math Class
Last week students did a fantastic job learning and following the procedures for our math centers. We are continuing our review with multiplication (2 digit by 2 digit numbers) and will move on to division next week before starting our fraction unit. Students have the opportunity to work on IXL assignments in class during math centers. If IXL assignments aren't completed in class then they will need to be completed at home.
Math Homework:
-IXL: D9, D10, D11, D12 due by the end of Friday, January 24th (Posted on Google classroom)
-I encourage students to continue memorizing multiplication times tables (0-12). Below I've linked some fun games that use multiplication flash cards to try at home.

Just like learning to walk before you can run, learning multiplication and memorizing the times tables are key building blocks for other math topics including division, fractions and algebra.
Science Class:
This week we’ve begun our engineering unit activity. Working in small groups, students are in the process of planning and building a bridge using a specific budget and amount of materials. Next week we will test the load(weight) capacity for each bridge using pennies. The goal is for each bridge to withstand a minimum load of 50 pennies. Students will then have the opportunity to make improvements to their bridges and test them again if needed.
In addition to the engineering activity criteria, students will be graded on the following 21st Century Skills: Interpersonal Skills (Teamwork & Collaboration) and Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Skills.
Classroom Supply Request list:
-large erasers
-scotch tape
-graph paper
-binder paper
-disinfectant wipes
-paper towels
Mahalo,
Ms. Elyssa
