Snacks: Aloha Parents, we have been having difficulties in class regarding students taking other peoples food without asking or taking it from their bags. Due to this issue, we ask that students do not share food with each other at school. If your student gets hungry throughout the day, please make sure that they bring a small snack for between breakfast and lunch. We are looking into creating a "community snack bin" where people can donate healthy snacks for our students who do not bring anything to eat. If you are interested in donating, please contact me. Thank you for your support in this.
Please complete IXL W.6, W.8, and W.10.
Ribbon Dance Info: The Ribbon Dance group is looking for students to participate in the Whale Day Celebration Parade on February 8th. If your student is interested, please contact Sifu Kalimaya Herrera at 808-357-0660 or [email protected] no later than Thursday February 6th. Please complete IXL modules W.3, W.4, and W.5 to 80%. We will be having our solar cooker quiz this Friday, please have your student study the information sheet I gave them.
IXL- W. 1 (Read a Table) and W.2 (Interpret Line Graphs)
This week we are moving into Data and Graphs. I will be working with each group as a whole, as well as in groups to help them understand each content. If your student struggles with the assigned IXL, please let me know so that I can work with them in class. I have created a new Donorschoose project in hopes of receiving a kidney table for use during centers. Please feel free to pass on this information to anyone who may be able to help. Mahalo to those families that have donated towards this cause. Aloha everyone,
I hope everyone is ready to get back into the swing of things now that we are back in school. We have an exciting month ahead of us, with visits from DARE, Kihei K-9 unit, and Southwest Airlines Adopt-a-Pilot. I will send out more information as we get closer to this amazing programs. Next week, we will begin the design and build of our solar cookers. Please have your student save boxes and aluminum foil for this project. They may choose the box, but flat ones work the best (like pizza boxes). Finally, I am going to be putting together a yearbook this year for our elementary school and would love some parent volunteers to help with the process. It is fairly easy, but a heavy workload if you are working on it alone so any help would be greatly appreciated. You can even do it from home!!! Please email me if you are interested! Welcome back everyone!!
I hope everyone had a fabulous break and are ready to begin an exciting 3rd quarter. It is hard to believe we are already half way through the year! As we begin the new year, I would like to do a special math project with my students to show them how important math is in our daily lives. We are going to be exploring various careers and how math is used in each job. If you or someone you know uses a variety of math for work, I would love to have you come in and present to the class so that the students can see how math is used outside the classroom. If you are interested, please email me or message me through Class Dojo. Much Mahalo! Aloha everyone! I wanted to reach out with a few reminders this week
Exhibition is coming this Friday, December 20 from 11:00-12:00. Students will be showcasing special projects that they completed over the course of the past semester and discussing all that they have learned. School will end at 12:00 for K-12 and there is no aftercare, KYC transportation or open lab. The last day of the semester is December 20. As a result, there will not be any homework this week. Progress reports will be emailed during the winter break which is December 23-January 6. Students return Tuesday, January 7. Please let me know if you have any questions! Aloha Families,
We are beginning to organize groups for our upcoming exhibition. Please let us know if your child will not be attending exhibition so we do not assign them a station. Thank you! Students will be working in pairs to create an experiment of their choice. They will work together to come up with a hypothesis and plan out the experiment. They will be presenting this experiment to the class and explaining how the experiment works. Students may conduct the experiment at home and video the results or they may conduct it in class. All experiments must be "school safe" and students will track the data they find. We will be working on this in class as well as at home. Presentations will begin next Monday.
