Welcome back to school! We are all very excited to begin the third quarter of the 2020 school year.
A warm welcome to 4th grade teacher Elyssa Farmer and EA Daisy Lopez!
Here are a few reminders and changes as we dive into the second semester:
- Supplies: Please be sure that your child’s supplies are not in need to be replenished. Many students were writing with broken pencils and crayons at the end of last semester. Students in grades K and 1st grade should also have student scissors for art class. Please check grade level sites for more information.
- New cell phone policy: As you know, we are always looking into ways of improving the learning environment at our school. After much thought and consideration, we have decided to adjust our cell phone policy. While cell phones and other handheld screen devices are deeply embedded within our modern culture, they also have the ability to negatively impact instruction and socialization within a school setting. Effective immediately, students may not use cell phones on campus at any time. However, they are allowed to keep their phones within their backpacks for emergency purposes. When the school day has concluded, students will have the opportunity to use their phones once again, specifically to help coordinate pick-up arrangements with parents and guardians. Cell phones will be confiscated from students who attempt to break this rule. The phones will be able to be picked up at the front office by parents at the end of the school day. Further disciplinary action will ensue for repeat offenders.
- After school activities:
- Aftercare begins at dismissal time each day and is for students in K-3 only. Older students are not allowed in the cafeteria and may not be on school grounds after school as there is no adult supervision. Aftercare ends promptly at 3:30 so please make every effort to pick up students by that time each day.
- Open Lab – open lab is open to students in grades 4 through 6 for one hour after school in room #208. Students must have work to do while in the lab or they will be asked to call home to be picked up.
- KYC – students in grades 4 and above are able to ride the vans to attend KYC. Vans begin to leave promptly at dismissal each day.
- January 20 is the Martin Luther King holiday – no school
