Aloha Parents & Guardians,
We are in the final days of the school year, and be it as it may, we hope you are all healthy and well!
When schools closed in mid-March, it felt like we were about to embark on a marathon. Well, I am happy to say that we are on the home stretch with just four weeks left in the school year. With your continued support, we can not only do it, but we will finish strong!
As I talk with parents about their new responsibilities as learning coach or “teacher,” many of them say that they are challenged by finding a consistent pattern of learning for their child. Consequently, it may also be difficult for your child to find an equal balance of online learning at home. Here are some ideas:
Scheduling – create a schedule for your child. It might take several attempts, but finding a routine that compliments your child's learning style and interestes will be the key to their (and your) success. If students are in upper elementary grades, consider having them be a part of creating a schedule. Be sure to incorporate breaks, snacks and exercise daily. Creative and down time is also important.
Consistency – Once you have found the schedule that fits your child, they should start and end their school day at the same time. Consider posting the schedule of the day where it is visible.
Boundaries – Create boundaries for learning. Most of us don’t want our work and home time to blend together and students are no different. Many are often confused when the lines between home and school are combined.
Communication – Students should not be working on assignments for hours at a time. If you find that learning becomes an arduous task, please reach out to your child’s teacher for suggestions. We recognize that not all children learn at the same pace or in the same way and we can offer suggestions to help you with this new world of learning at home.
We are all in this together, so please let us know if we can help.
May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week. While we can’t be together to show how much we value our teacher’s love and hard work, please consider sending a few kind words to help them know you are thinking of them.
The week of May 18 is Talent Show week!
Ideas for the show include:

We miss you all and look forward to seeing you online!!
