The IXL homework for the week of October 28, 2019 is as follows:
Math: A4, A5, B5. Extra Practice: Q3
Language Arts: D1, EE1
Homework is due on Friday, Nov. 1 at 8 am.
In the Classroom:
We completed our study of Red-Eared Slider turtles this week, and each of the students created a book showing what they have learned. This will be part of what we will be sharing at the Exhibition in our classroom on December 20, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please save the date!
In math, we have continued counting money and now have $27.27 saved up for our classroom Star Party! Thank you to the Gavrilovich and Card 'Ohanas for donating some additional loose change to our pot! The children have really enjoyed counting it and we have gotten very good at counting by tens!
I want to thank the families who contributed to our Teachers Pay Teachers fund! We now have the Language Arts "Rooted in Reading," fully funded for the entire school year! Mahalo to my mom (Miriam Geraghty), the Rice, Gravrilovich, and Hoffman 'Ohanas for contributions to the fund! The children will benefit from the money donated every day this school year!
In technology class this week, the students started using Smarty Ants and log-in information was sent home from the technology teacher. This is an optional program for your students to do at home if they choose. I will not be assigning homework from this program.
In science this week, we learned about how plants eat and the process of photosynthesis. We also learned about several significant female scientist and will also be sharing this work with you as well at the December exhibition.
Mahalo to the Barrett and Leaper 'Ohanas for the aluminum foil! We are going to be decorating our classroom door to the theme from a book we read in Language Arts called Stellaluna by Janell Cannon. Come check it out after Monday! On Tuesday, October 29, we have a visit from Troy, and X-ray Tech who is going to teach us about bones. Thursday, October 31, is Character Day. The children can come to school dressed up as their favorite book character. Please remember we play outside in the hot, kihei sun on this day, so do not put heavy make up or a costume that is too warm on your child. Costumes do not need to be elaborate to make this day fun. No accessories please! Also, I will not be in school on Friday, Nov. 1 and we will have a sub that day.
Lastly, mahalo to the Cross 'Ohana for the child-sized dustpans, and the Marshall 'Ohana for the tape!
