Aloha First Grade Ohana,
We are back online with consistent internet after last week's interruption! I apologize that I was not able to update the Weebly last week, or if you have emailed me and I have not yet responded. I am catching up and will respond as soon as I can. I appreciate your patience!
The Book Mobile will be returning to campus with the first visit this Friday August 23rd. If your student does not already have a library card and would like one, please see the information below provided by the Book Mobile.
Library Card Applications:
The application is available online HERE and must be filled out legibly and completely.
The student signs or writes his/her name on the applicant signature line and a parent or guardian signs as indicated on the line below.
Please write the school, grade level, and teacher’s name on the upper right corner of each application.
The bookmobile staff needs to receive completed applications at least one week ahead of our visit. The information must be verified by the teacher. Applications may be scanned and emailed HERE or faxed to Wailuku Public Library at (808) 243-5768. Parents may also visit a public library with their child to apply for a library card.
In The Classroom:
We begin each day with circle time. We sing songs, read poetry and talk about the plan for the day as well as update the date. In math, the students are working on counting numbers 1-10. Next week we will work on comparing numbers, and counting up and down. In Language Arts, we have worked on note taking, journal work, writing sentences, and sight words. In Science, we are working on what plants need and we are trying to grow radishes. We are also studying the sun and earth, and bumble bees. We are starting a STEM project and the students will be designing a crayon box. We will be getting two red-eared slider turtles as classroom pets during the next week. I have had the turtles since 2008 in my classroom and they can't wait to move in! I have a large tank, but I am looking for a water filter to keep the water clean. Please see the wish list for other classroom needs. Mahalo for your kokua!
