Our Dear First-Grade 'Ohana,
The end of the quarter is rapidly approaching and with it comes student conference week September 30-October 4. Please sign up for a conference time with me through Sign Up Genius.
Students in grades K-6 will be released at noon during the week of September 30-October 4. There will not be aftercare that week. Lunch will be served as usual.
October 4 is the last day of the first quarter. The Fall Break is October 7 - 14. School resumes Tuesday, October 15.
IXL Homework for the Week:
Math: A3 (Counting Review up to 20), C1 (Adding 1), D1 (Sums up to 10),
Language Arts: C1 (Choose the Picture that Rhymes with the Word), DD1 (Put the Letters in ABC Order), EE2 (Identifying Questions)
IXL homework will be graded by the following guidelines: Each assignment is worth 10 points. Students who have a scaled score of 80 and above, OR spend 20 minutes on each assignment will receive full credit.
A few classroom reminders.....We have some headphones for the students to use, but they are the kind that go inside the ear. Many students prefer the ones that cover their ears. I recommend each student keep their own set of headphones in school. They will be using them all year in tech class.
Also, all Scholastic Orders are due on Monday, September 23. This is a great way to get new books for your keiki that follow their interest. It is also a great way for us to get free books for our class! You can also see books I have recommended for the class, as well as our class wish list. WE WILL ONLY BE DOING ONLINE ORDERS FOR SCHOLASTIC. Our class code is W6L4V. Books can be ordered through the scholastic.com Web site. Please let me know if you have any questions, and happy reading!
In the Classroom
We have finished up our study of numbers 1-10, and now are working on addition with numbers 1-10. In Language Arts, we worked on rhyming words, and read the book Real Cowboys by Kate Hoefler. We used this book to learn about question marks, and questioning sentences, and for vocabulary words as well. Next week, we will be reading Honey, Honey, Lion by Jan Brett and learn about re-telling a story, vowels and consonants and upper and lower case letters. Most students also completed IReady testing in math and reading this week. A few students brought in their Crayon Box creations and got to share them with the class. Please remember all Crayon Boxes are due on Monday, September 23 along with the last few questions on their worksheets. Keep up the good work first-graders!
