Today, you will email me as soon as possible. The subject should be "Spring Break work Your Name". I will email you and your parents back with information about our most recent iReady math diagnostic, which was taken in class on Friday. I will also tell you how many math lessons you will need to complete over Spring Break. You will start these lessons today and I will grade them on March 30th, our first day of 4th quarter. You will probably be able to finish these lessons today.
EDIT (9:44 am): AFTER I HAVE EMAILED YOU THE ASSIGNMENTS, YOU WILL JUST NEED TO CLICK "START LESSONS." If any other lessons show up, please just email me. Thanks!
Next, today is Pi Day! Pi is a Greek letter (π) that is the symbol for the number 3.14 (Get it?! March 14th, 3/14 = 3.14). We use Pi, or 3.14 to find area and perimeter (circumference) of a circle.
Watch this video to learn more info about circles and Pi.
Then, complete lesson P. 32 on IXL. You will estimate, so just use 3 for Pi. TRY TO GET A SMART SCORE OF AT LEAST 70.
Important circle terms and examples:
Radius: the length from the center to one side of a circle (half of the diameter)
R = 2 in (D ÷ 2)
Diameter: the length from one side to the opposite side of a circle (2x radius)
D = 4 in (R x 2)
Circumference: the distance around the outside of a circle (aka perimeter, π x d, or 3 x d)
C = 12 in (D x 3 or R x 2 x 3)
Pi: π, 3.14
Have a great math-filled day! Then reward yourself with a pie! ;)
Last spelling test of third quarter
Wednesday, 8:55-2:30, PICK UP AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL
We will be learning basic first aid and ocean safety with the lifeguards at Kamaole Beach Park 1. We will NOT be swimming but it will be hot so sun protection, a water bottle, shorts, and closed-toed shoes are a MUST. We will then go to the middle school to complete our math SBAC test. We still have 2 performance tasks (ELA and Math) to complete during 4th quarter.
Thursday, 3/17 - Tuesday, 3/29, NO SCHOOL, Spring Break
Fourth Quarter starts on Wednesday 3/30, 8:55-1:30. Wednesday will be a PE day so wear sun protection, shorts, closed-toed shoes, and bring a water bottle. We will NOT be going to the middle school on 3/30 but will return at least 2 more times during 4th quarter. More info after break.
